Trip 7 Β· My most recent adventure
Spain
Sunshine in February, palm trees by the sea, and a town built on top of a giant cliff. Spain might be where my family lives one day.
4 β 13 Feb 2026
Age 6
10 days Β· whole family
Cities I
visited
The Capital
Madrid
Big squares, royal palaces, and the world's oldest restaurant. We had churros for breakfast and walked through the giant Retiro Park.
Costa del Sol
Marbella
A seaside town on the south coast. Palm-lined promenade, white houses, blue Mediterranean Sea, and yachts in the harbour.
Andalusia Β· mountain
Ronda
A magic town built on top of a cliff, split in two by a 100-metre-deep gorge. A stone bridge crosses the gap.
Things I
did
π°
Royal Palace, Madrid
The biggest royal palace in Western Europe β 3,418 rooms! The Spanish royal family doesn't actually live there.
π³
Retiro Park
A huge park in Madrid with a lake you can row a boat on, and a glass palace built like a giant greenhouse.
π
Puente Nuevo, Ronda
"The New Bridge" (built in 1793!) crosses a 120-metre gorge. Looking down makes your tummy flip.
π
Plaza de Toros, Ronda
The oldest bullring in Spain. We didn't see a bullfight, but we walked the sand of the empty arena.
ποΈ
Marbella beach
Walked the long Paseo MarΓtimo (the seafront promenade) and put our feet in the Mediterranean.
π©
Chocolate con Churros
A breakfast tradition: long fried doughnuts dipped in a thick cup of melted chocolate. Yes please!
π
Plaza Mayor, Madrid
A huge red-and-white square in the middle of Madrid. People have gathered here since 1620.
ποΈ
Andalusian mountains
The drive from Marbella up to Ronda zig-zags through pine forests and white "pueblos blancos" villages.
Food I
tried
π₯
Paella
Saffron rice with seafood
π€
Tapas
Lots of tiny dishes to share
π©
Churros
With chocolate dip!
π
JamΓ³n
Famous cured Spanish ham
π
Gazpacho
Cold tomato soup
π₯§
Tortilla EspaΓ±ola
Potato omelette (not Mexican!)
Fun
facts
about Spain
Spain has more than
3,000 hours of sunshine
a year β almost as sunny as Vietnam, but with cool nights.
Once a year in a town called BuΓ±ol, thousands of people throw
tomatoes at each other
for fun. It's called La Tomatina.
Flamenco β the famous fiery dance with stamping feet and clapping hands β comes from southern Spain.
Spaniards eat
lunch at 2 pm
and dinner at 9 or 10 pm. Many shops close in the afternoon for a "siesta" (nap).
Football (soccer) is the most loved sport. Real Madrid and Barcelona are two of the most famous clubs on Earth.
Spanish is the
second-most-spoken language in the world
after Mandarin Chinese β about 500 million people speak it.
Spain might one day be where our family has a second home β that's why we keep visiting.
